It's finally that time of year that all fashionistas and socialites look forward to. Runway models have dedicated the past couple months to their seemingly impossible, grueling diets, designers have lost hundreds of hours of sleep perfecting the very collections that will be displayed on the catwalk. The lights are in place, the chairs are perfectly aligned, and that can only mean one thing... fashion week is here!
As September 10th snuck up on us all after the relaxing labor day weekend, the hustle and bustle of the nation's most happening city was in full effect. Everyone whose anyone commuted from the west coast to the east coast. Fashion moguls, designers, models, buyers, as well as the rich & famous all came from far ends of the world to take a seat in the pristine chairs of Bryant Park and see the latest fashion, partake in the hottest parties and score a sneak preview of what styles they too will be rockin' this spring.
As always, there was something for everyone. From the budding fashion-lovers who live the simple life and enjoy nothing more than a plain colored frock and matching cardigan to gowns designed solely for dames and british royalty to even edgy, rocker chic.
Alexander Wang came out with a bang debuting his usual dark, urban color palette or black, grays and white, and even coincidentally paired an athletic vibe with his collection in perfect timing for the NFL season kick-off. Wang's former muse and current designer Erin Wasson also had her own show, Erin Wasson x RVCA, which also entangled a hip, relaxed urban vibe, which Wasson herself has become infamous for.
Diane von Furstenberg showcased an unexpected, youthful tone to her usually restricted, feminine, and polished fashion label. The models paraded the runway resembling fairies fluttering around a magical forest and were even clad with Caesar-esque wreaths of gold leaves. Diane's entire collection was refreshing, light-hearted and received an overwhelming acceptance from its devoted viewers.
To surprising disappointment Whitney Port, the third veteran from MTV's "The Hills", who is known by her heavily zealous viewers for her ordinarily dapper attire, flaunted a premiere line of Whitney Eve, her self-titled fashion line, which was described by many as, "blah".
Even though many of models who took part in veteran designer Carolina Herrera's 2010 spring/summer fashion show were no more than 20-years-old, when dressed head-to-toe in Herrera's aristocratic garments, one would never know. Her luxurious eveningwear is without a doubt her signature line. Come award season or high-profile movie premiere's Herrera is a general "go to line". Her spring and summer line reminded the audience of Carolina's glorious skills when it comes to both daywear and separates. There were numerous hits and little misses in Herrera's majestic line, which included: tea-length dresses, cropped jackets paired with woven shorts and one-shouldered gowns.
Charlotte Ronson may very well be known for being "Lindsay Lohan's girlfriend's sister", but to anyone who knows anything about fashion or has stepped in the most-expensive section of any Urban Outfitters location anytime soon you know that she is the next best thing when it comes to the world of designing. Forget the lace, ribbon and bows; Charlotte prefers pink tulle, silver studs and acid-washed, well... everything! Ronson described her line as, "It's a kind of classical meets street." Couldn't have said it better myself!
With a few more days still to come it's safe to say that more risks will be taken and new trends shall be explored!
