It's sunday, we're all sitting at home relaxing and watching football so why not update you on how things are going in the world of analysis, opinion and prediction. Before we focus on all the positive aspects of reading the opinions of the Sports Masterminds, it is time for us to put aside our arrogance and introduce a new thing that we recommend to sports writers everywhere. The ability to be humble, admit when we're wrong, and apologize for our errors in judgement. Blake Broussard may not want to apologize for his record against the spread, but I apologize on his behalf. In terms of win-loss record, I went 4-5, Blake went 5-4. In terms of betting odds/scoring accuracy, I went 5-4, Blake went 4-5. We are sorry for our idiocy, we are both off to very mediocre starts, mainly due to the fact we liked the same favored teams. However, in an effort to encourage you to keep read and believing in our blog, based on so many arguments regarding the rest of the games, one of us is bound to turn it around and have a pretty good day, or we will both finish near .500 in all categories & assumptions.
Either way, if you actually read the descriptions and previews within our prediction statements, we made some good points, that proved to be true (see Dez Bryant, Desean Jackson, and the Packers) and although we have had an average day guessing and honing our psychic skills... the mainstream media is lame. Go ahead and check out the results of the guys on ESPN, CBSsports, Yahoo Sports and anywhere else, we are off to a GOOD start comparitively. SEVEN of the NINE underdogs in today's 1 pm games won their games, All smart predictions made by smart people feature around 2/3rds of the favorites winning their games, that's just how it works. What we're mostly sorry for, is listening to the hype, watching too much ESPN, believing in Las Vegas's odds, and not doing enough of the ONE thing that sets up apart... making reasonable predictions in contradiction to the GARBAGE the mainstream media tells you to believe. In relation to the fact that most of the underdogs have won today, our predictions have been fairly solid. But from now on, we promise to believe in our instincts more than our television sets. Blake has a winning record and he picked the chiefs, so give him props on his opinions (though the Browns were in control for most of the game) I knew and stated the Bears would be better, obviously I didn't think they would be this good as the Cowboys are already choking, but so did all of us who predicted a Cowboys victory. Mike Martz deserves tremendous amount of praise. The Steelers didn't even have their back-up QB, but their defense has proven to be as dominant as when they won Super Bowls. We all knew this one would be close, and everyone thought the Titans would win. I knew the Dolphins were still great and I should've went with my gut, but I figured the Vikings simply had too much talent. Unfortunately, Brad Childress is the worst coach of all time, give Favre a CHANCE to win you the damn game. Tampa Bay isn't good, and they shouldn't be winning games, but we all over-estimated the Carolina Panthers. They might have the worst quarterback situation in the league.
Most importantly in terms of OUR predictions, while we failed on all the games that everyone else also got wrong, I gave you three best bets and was SURE of one other game as well. The Bengals did, in fact, beat the Ravens as Blake and I told you they would, the one thing we are most proud of because so many people think the Ravens are going to win the Super Bowl, and so many people have already hopped off of the Bengals bandwagon. Blake and I both told you that the Packers would destroy the Bills and the points spread, mad props to my brother Mr. Blizzard on that one. (I told you Brandon Jackson would be irrelevant) And finally, Despite my lack of faith in the Atlanta Falcons and Michael Turner, I guaranteed, and staked this entire blog's reputation on the fact that the Falcons would CRUSH the awful Arizona Cardinals. Check, check, and check, we are good.
And thus, if you bet on the games you were told to, you'd be 2 of 2 or 3 for 3 so far, luckily Blake has me covered if the Patriots lose or win by less than 3. Smart thinking. However, I am shocked at the Patriots struggling offense in the first half, I knew the Jets defense was good, but this game is so critical in determing how we view these two teams for the rest of this season...I really thought the Pats offense would reach a pretty incredible level again this year (not the best ever, but not too far off) so let's all watch in astonishment! Meanwhile look for my upset pick tonight, Giants over the Colts, but I am anti-guarantee proofing that particular prediction. If you bet actual money on the Giants, you must be some crazed nutcase of a fan....or a genius like me? Anyway, it's been fun, keep watching football ladies and gentleman! The moral of today being : Stop listening to everyone else, and trust that we'll keep improving (and that we'll stop listening to them too)
Also, IP address people who often check out our updates, we just came up with the idea for this blog in August, we just started adding pictures last week, and we are continously getting better and more entertaining with each passing day, so don't be afraid to follow the instructions at the top of the page and become loyal followers of Sports Mastermind. We appreciate your support, and we're keeping track of our original fans, we THANK you guys and gals, stay tuned...
At Half-time the Patriots are making me look good, by not looking that good and still leading by 4 points (1 point above the spread, and 5 points ahead of losing). Continued good luck football fans!
