The MLB Is Drafting The Shit Out Of TCU Baseball

From sportsdfw.com:

* TCU had a school-record eight players drafted in this year’s draft.
* Four were taken on day one, four were taken on day two
* Matt Purke, Taylor Featherston, Kyle Winkler, and Jason Coats were all selected in the first 12 rounds, in that order
* Erik Miller, Steven Maxwell, Jerome Pena, and Kaleb Merck were all drafted in the 31st round or later, in that order

Starters Matt Purke and Kyle Winkler have not announced whether or not they will sign with their respective MLB teams or return to TCU. Schlossnagle has said he wants his players to do what’s best for them and their families, but the Frogs could certainly benefit from having those two guys back next year.

I think both would benefit greatly by staying in Fort Worth another year, because Schlossnagle and his training staff, along with the player’s parents, will be able to monitor very closely the player’s offseason workouts and number of pitches thrown, going into next spring. Not to mention, it would give Winkler a chance to graduate.

The players we know will be leaving, due to graduation, are Maxwell and Pena. It would be outstanding to see Featherston, Coats, Winkler, Miller, and Merck all come back for their senior years together. TCU could use the leadership, not to mention the talent itself.

Here is a complete TCU draft summary:

Matt Purke (3rd round, Washington Nationals, 96th overall)

Taylor Featherston (5th round, Colorado Rockies, 168th overall)
Kyle Winkler (10th round, Arizona D’Backs, 304th overall)
Jason Coats(12th round, Baltimore Orioles, 365th overall)
Erik Miller (31st round, Cincinnati Reds, 955th overall)
Steven Maxwell (37th round, Chicago Cubs, 1,119th overall)
Jerome Pena (38th round, Baltimore Orioles, 1,145th pick overall)
Kaleb Merck (43rd round, Texas Rangers, 1,314th pick overall)

There goes the fucking team. At least the Rangers got Kaleb Merck and none of them went to a team in the AL West. Trying to stay positive.
