detroit, the new L.A.?

it seems that there may be a glimmer of hope for detroit after all.
after months and months of nothing but bad news and layoffs the city of allen park, michigan
has been graced with news that has instantly lifted the spirits of michigan residents.

it was announced tuesday that plans have been unvieled for a $146-million-dollar
movie, television and new media studios,
along with residential and retail development
on 104 acres in allen park!

maybe this is just what the city of detroit needs to revitalize
their tragic disappearing jobs and escalating unemployment rate?

unity studios is apparently the "brain child" of jimmy lifton,
founder of burbank, california based oracle post!

oracle has produced enviable masterpieces
including: heroes, the simpsons, law & order, cops,
saw 5, resident evil 3, shrek 3
and of course,
spongebob squarepants!

it is said that the struggling residents of detroit
will have first dibs at the job pool
once these positions become available.

the facility is expected to encompass all areas
of production, post-production and related infastructure.
that will be a change of pace to have epic movies filmed
in beautiful, scenic detroit, michigan?!!

believe it or not this is not the only studio making detroit its own home.
23rd street studios is expected to open a 40 million dollar studio
and a 70 million dollar plan for the old GM corp!
the state of michigan is reportedly
reimbursing the studios up to 42 percent of their expenses
in tax breaks.

what's next MI-PD?
a ghetto fabulous version of gossip girl
in the slums of downtown detroit?

i would love to hear what all the diva celebrities
are saying about setting up shop in detroit
versus glamour los angeles, california?
hmmmm...
